Antonio Roberts’ work focuses on the errors and glitches generated by digital technology. With his roots in free culture he develops techniques using, developing and sharing open source & freely available software. I first encountered Antonio’s work at his BA degree show at BIAD – he did a performance there in a room scattered with old TVs. Afterwards he had to move them all from one room to the other and we talked about the joy of lugging heavy stuff around when making art. These prints from his Favourite Song project were produced especially for FRAME_ and I’m delighted to have them as part of the show. EC

"In February 2012 I made a 72-minute compilation CD that summarised my musical tastes. "Some of My Favourite Songs" is a series of images made by reinterpreting each of the 16 songs on the CD as images. Each of the 16 images were made by taking an mp3 of each song and feeding it into a specially made program - built with Pure Data – that converts the mp3s binary data into an image. Unlike spectrograms and waveforms, this visual representation of the audio shares a lot with glitch art and captures the noisier and more chaotic nature of sounds.”
